Spring Transition Management of Overseeded Bermuda Ryegrass is a cool season grass and looks great at all mowing heights. Many homeowners often maintain a lush, tall growth late into the spring. The ryegrass will compete with Bermuda grass in the spring, therefore this is a practice that should be avoided. The Bermuda grass is competing with the ryegrass for sunlight, nutrients and water. To avoid this problem, begin mowing at 1/2" to 3/4" after March 15th. This practice will allow the sunlight to reach the Bermuda grass, resulting in a much smoother transition from an overseeded lawn to a Bermuda grass lawn.
